An open skipper's layer for a boat: it reads the boat, reads the weather and answers the questions a chart screen does not.

OpenBoat is an open-source side project. It is not a chartplotter; those exist and they are good. It is the layer above one: your boat's own data, your boat's own history, and an assistant that can read both and answer the questions a chart screen does not. Can we go out on Saturday. What will the weather be doing at the second waypoint. Why is that alarm going off.

It is for skippers who like to tinker. The install is one command and needs no boat: it starts on a demo profile with live weather and ships a simulator, so the whole thing runs on a laptop in January. It reads Signal K, the open marine data standard.

What you get: passage windows checked against your own limits, routes with the weather each leg will meet, a helm dashboard for a cockpit tablet, an anchor watch, AIS collision awareness, an engine log that writes itself, and an assistant that is read-only by design. Code on GitHub.
