Captions
AI video app for captions, dubbing and talking avatars
Captions and dubbing are excellent; the generative features are a lottery you pay for in credits.
Pros
- Word-level captions that are right the first time in several languages
- Dubbing keeps the speaker's voice and the lip timing is close enough for social
- The desktop web app does everything the phone app does, on a real screen
- Exports in every vertical and square format a platform wants
Cons
- Credits for the generative features run out faster than the plan page suggests
- The AI presenters still look like AI presenters when they move their hands
- The official API is invite only; the app is the only reliable door
- Plan names and prices shift every few months
Best forAnyone who publishes short vertical video and wants captions and dubs without an editor.
Captions started as a phone app that put subtitles on talking-head clips and has grown into a full AI video tool: captions, dubbing into other languages, eye contact correction, AI actors, and generated clips from a prompt. It now lives on the phone and in a desktop web app.
How I use it
Mostly for the boring parts. A short clip goes in, comes back with clean word-level captions in the style I set once, and a dubbed version in German or English when I need the other language. That alone pays for the plan, because a manual caption pass on a one-minute clip used to cost me twenty minutes. Now and then I generate an AI presenter to test a script before anyone real stands in front of a camera. I run it from the desktop web app, never from the phone, because I want the files on my disk.
What surprised me is the dubbing. The voice stays the speaker's voice, the timing is close, and for social video nobody notices. What annoys me is the credit system. Captions and dubs are included, but anything generative pulls from a credit pool that empties faster than I expect, and the plan page is vague about how much a given feature costs. The AI actors have improved a lot but still give themselves away when they gesture. And the official API has been invite only for a long time, so if you want to automate anything you are stuck with the app.
Who it is for
Creators and small teams who publish vertical video regularly and want the caption and dub work done in minutes. If that is your week, the Max plan is an easy yes. Skip it if you only need captions once a month, because a free tool will do, or if your whole plan depends on the generative features; test those on the trial first and count the credits.
